Healthy Boundaries BETWEEN WORK AND PERSONAL LIFE

Business

August 29, 2017

As human beings we have the tendency to over pack our schedule and over promise our time away. Whether that would be towards our family, our friends, our homes, or our lively-hood. Being a creative entrepreneur, Sara and I have a truly bad habit of setting boundaries for ourselves when it comes to stepping away from work. This bad habit came partly out of not being productive enough during our work hours. We shared our top tips on productivity on the blog a while back. Now we are sharing with you the other half of setting healthy boundaries for your work and life!

When you are out with your friend/spouse/family, put your phone away

Jake and Sara have started this rule with each other – when they are out with each other, their phones are away. They are on just in case of an emergency, but they don’t look at their phones at all! No  checking their social media, texts, or other sites. It’s just time to focus on each other and put their priority back into prospective.

For the emergency rule, we call twice. If Sara calls me and I don’t answer and it is emergency, she calls again and then I know it is important to answer.

Wake up earlier

Now I am not saying that it is easy to do so, but it is completely worth it. You have more time to wake up slowly, enjoy your coffee instead of guzzling it down, and to have a little devotional time before your day begins. It doesn’t have to be 4AM, but it could be as simple at 7AM. Set a time that works best for you and stick to it!

Limit your to-do list priorities to one thing per day

Setting five things to do in that ONE day can seriously overwhelm you and actually make you not accomplish a single thing. Set ONE thing to accomplish for that day, and consider anything else is a bonus!

Give yourself ‘you’ time

Sara has really been traveling all over the east coast this past month and it has taken a toll on her. She hasn’t taken anytime for herself and that is not good!It is good to give yourself some you time. It can look like a good book, couch snuggles, a bubble bath, time away from the computer, etc! There are so many options, but just grant yourself a little bit of grace and extend yourself some you time.

White space is a must

“White space” is a fun little term we heard through a wonderful podcast! It refers to the space in your calendar where it isn’t filled up with tasks or things to do. Make sure to create that so whether you are producing or creating, you have that time to do so. Or to even take your you time!

So while you are working hard today, begin to take baby steps towards creating a health and productive environment for you!
