In our last post, Sara and I shared with you our 2018 Business Goals using our Powersheets! Now, we have received a lot of questions about how we are able to use our Powersheets from Cultivate What Matters in our business! Since our last post was about our business goals, we thought it would be the PERFECT time to share about how we use Powersheets as a two person Business.
One note we do want to share: when we set out goals, we purchase ONE one year Powersheets for the both of us to use. We don’t use two Powersheets then combine, we just use ONE set of sheets together. Now, let’s dive in!
There is something amazingly powerful when you let down your guard and share (honestly) where you are and also share where you desire to go, personally and professionally. It makes it EXTREMELY difficult when the person you are sharing them with is your business partner and loved one. However, there is a wonderful thing that begins to happen when you work through all of the questions the Powersheet gives you.
Sara and I realize how close we are into what we wish for our business to be, how alike we really are, yet how different we can be as well. It is a celebration of being mother + daughter business partners and best friends.
Now, I am going to be really honest here, when we first began using Powersheets…we didn’t really succeed in using them. In 2016, we were all excited about starting them and then somewhere along the way we forgot about it. When 2017, Sara and I thought it might be a good idea just to try them one more time! When reviewing our 2017 Powersheets we were so happy on how much we really did use them in the past year. So for us it was obvious we needed them in 2018!
OUR TOP TIPS FOR USING POWERSHEETS AS A TEAM:
1. YOU NEED MORE TIME THAN YOU THINK
Our first mistake when trying to do Powersheets as a team is that you have to talk about EVERYTHING. Everything leads to a discuss that could last for a few minutes and that doesn’t seem like a lot of time…that is until you add it all up. When you add up a few minutes times fifteen then you have A LOT of minutes that could turn into an hour just by itself. So this year, we blocked out three to four days with three to four hours EACH to do our Powersheets.
2. BEGIN THINKING ABOUT YOUR GOALS BEFORE DOING POWERSHEETS
Now this might be a little odd because don’t you do the Powersheets in order to create your goals? Yes! However, having an “idea” of your goals before you even begin the Powersheets will help you navigating through them a little bit easier.
3. USE YOUR INITIALS
As we start to delve into our Powersheets, there are pages where you have to dig deep but there isn’t a lot of room to write. So what do you do? Sara and I find it as simple to mark something using our initials. For example, in then we go to “Getting to know about me us” section, if Sara is extroverted, she will simply added an “S” or “SMR” next to it!
4. DON’T SKIP A PAGE
We know this might be a very common, easy point to make, but it’s the truth. We have all thought about skipping pages before because they are “not for us.” However, it is VERY important that you do very single page because every page is a piece to the puzzle.
5. ONCE YOU FINISH YOUR MONTHLY TENDING LIST, ASSIGN TASKS
In every business, everyone has their tasks to accomplish. Everyone has their place and their field to sow, sort of speak. So if you don’t assign tasks, then how does everyone know what to do? Once Sara and I have our tending list completed, we assign our tasks to each other and break it down on our calendars. We take time to check in with each other every week to see how the progress is going. It also helps us to have a copy of the tending list in front of each of us!
OTHER HELPFUL TIPS
Give yourselves some grace. We try to remember just because we write down in that month, sometimes things come along or we may decide it may be better to move a project back, we do so. We are flexible in our approach to finish our tasks each month but want to have joy while we are doing so!
One of the greatest things we implemented this past year was a morning meeting. It is a 15 minutes meeting of going over our calendars, to do list for the days, and anything else we need to share.
Goals should inspire you to get up in the morning, reach higher, and be the best you can be. Find the goals, that inspire you, to be all that YOU can be!
If you truly delve into it, give it your all, the rewards are endless. You learn more about yourself as well as some things you may need to change so that you can set yourself up for success. So yes, go through every page, it is one hundred percent worth it!
How can we help encourage you to reach those goals? Is there something you like us to share with you? Leave us a comment below or email us at michelle@michelleandsara.com or sara@michelleandsara.com. We love to help you!
