caring for your wedding rings blog post title photograph with three rings on white bible

Along with being wedding photographers, one of the joys Michelle and I have is bringing content to you (the bride) about certain, unspoken, topics! For the past few months, this post has been on my (Sara’s) mind to write, but the words have fallen flat that is until now!

It is safe to guess that by you reading this you might be wearing an engagement or wedding ring(s)! It is also safe to say that you’re searching out the best tips to care for your wedding rings and you’re in the right place! Today, Michelle and I are bringing you our top five tips for caring for your wedding rings!

One – Don’t be afraid to take it off!

While all we desire to do is wear our rings 24/7, it’s not that best for the ring(s) nor our hands! Taking your ring(s) off before taking a shower/bath, putting on lotion, taking off makeup, washing dishes, or using hair products! All of these things can get trapped in the settings or cloud up the stone(s)! Now you have a reason to go out and purchase yourself a beautiful ring plate to keep them safe!

Two/Three – Use cleaning solutions, but also don’t forget your cleanings!

Every ring store is different, but our husbands purchased our rings from Kay Jewelers. All of our rings have free cleanings with the purchases ever six months. They check the stones, the settings, and the band for anything that should be fixed. After that, they will clean and polish it all up! However, in between those six months, we also use a cleaning solution at home to keep up with the cleaning! You could make a DIY version, but it’s something worth investing just a little bit of money for the real deal! Whatever you do, please make sure that the solution is matching to your ring’s material and stone!!

Four – After cleanings, use a microfiber cloth to dry it off!

Using a paper towel or toilet paper will leave fine particles in your setting that may dirty it over time!

Five – Always handle your ring(s) by the band!

Stones and their settings are delicate, but stable for the most part, but you never want to get used to handling your ring(s) by the stone! Not only could it loosen the settings, but the oils in your fingers can cause the stone to lose that sparkle!
