Why Printed Photographs, In A Digital Age, Are Still Important The Educated Bride / Education / Personal

We believe that this is a subject that we, as photographers, do not talk about enough!

Why Printed Photographs, even in such a digital age, are still so important to have.

Before we dive head first right into it, we wanted to push the pause button and say: this is a subject that’s been pressing on our hearts lately. We’ve noticed that we are all too comfortable to leave our photographs to our iPhone folder or Instagram. However, when I (Sara) look at the photographs printed on my wall every single day – there’s such a wave of emotion – I cannot explain it. The point of this post is for everyone – couples, photographers, families – everyone!

Why is this topic pressing on our hearts lately? Michelle and I are doing a whole 2019 life-giving home goal – you can read about that here! Anyways, during the first month, Michelle took on the task of going through old photographs to give organize them and also distribute copies to the family. While going through this giant bin she found her parents, Irene and Ray’s, wedding photographs. Sifting through every single photograph brought tears to our eyes – we felt joy, happiness, longing to hug them, and connected. It really was a mixture of emotions, but felt surreal to actually hold memories, that neither of us was apart of, in our hands. So it led us to write this post for everyone, even as a reminder to us!

Let’s dive into the three reasons why printed photographs are still so important to have!

YOU’LL TAKE & MAKE THE TIME

If we are sending a print or our heirloom album to our couple we make that a BIG priority on our task list! The same thing goes with your personal photographs – if you want to print them then you’ll make the time. Honestly, we completely understand it’s hard to make time. You’ve got a lot going on and there is so much that you already want to do that you just feel overwhelmed and push it off. It’s so hard on us with our personal photographs! Our biggest piece of advice is don’t push it off! Take the time to really print them out because in points two and three we will share that you won’t regret it!

If anything, think about the older, future you with your grandkids sharing pieces of your life physically rather than through a computer! It’s sort of like food, it creates a connection piece where timeless stories are told and friendships are deepened!

YOU’LL LOOK AT THEM MORE

Michelle and I each created a small little photo book of our 2017/2018 travels from Artifacts Uprising. By taking the time to create these photobooks, we honestly look at those photographs more. This sort of goes into point number three quickly, but if you make the investment you’ll want to enjoy that investment. By investing in printing those precious moments out – you’ll take the time to look at them more! It also gives you a chance to share those memories and moments with others – which is the best!

KNOW THAT THE INVESTMENT IS WORTH IT

I’ve always thought about it this way – it is like making the investment to fly first class vs sitting all of the ways in the back of the plane in coach. If you take the time to print your photographs out in whatever way you desire, you’re making that investment and you’ll *again* treasure those captured memories more. It also goes back to point number two because of the investment into your photobooks or prints, you’ll look at them more!

You can see the circle, as these three points listed above, are connected to one another. By making the time and investment into printing your memories out, you’ll look, share, and treasure them so much more!!
