Firework display at Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

Niagara Falls, Ontario Canada

Niagara Falls in Ontario Canada is just one of those places you must go and visit at least once in your lifetime. If you have seen the falls from the US side, I will encourage you to drive over the border (make sure you have your passport) and visit the Canada side of the falls, it is worth the visit.

When Joe had to go to Canada for the business meeting, I decided to go with him so that we could have a bit of time together. We flew into Buffalo, New York and then drove the 90-minute drive to Canada border.  To drive across the bride and see the falls is quite awe-inspiring.

We were so blessed to get a room with a rooftop terrace in which we could see Niagara Falls perfectly.  With 76 degrees weather, I was in heaven. Just at the same time, it was cool there, it cooled down here in the Carolina’s as well. I think one of my favorite things to do was just sit outside on the roof. As it was just so unbelievably peaceful listening to the water.

At night they have lights on the water that turns the falls into different colors. To top it off, which is hard to do, but they have a wonderful fireworks display.  To make sure you don’t miss any of the fireworks, they have one large boom that gives you a 10-minute warning that the fireworks are coming.  Just enough time to grab a cocktail and head to the balcony and see a wonderful display.

I took quite a few photographs of the fireworks.  With no tripod around on a 1/10th of a second for a shutter, I held my breath and click three images of in a row! I was pleasantly surprised to find a few of my photographs were keepers.

Now can you also go to one of the many hotels that have restaurants on the top floors, to see not only the waterfall but the fireworks at night!  What a grand view of the falls and the city!  Oh, and let’s not forget all the delicious food!  So many wonderful places to eat. My second favorite place (we will get to my favorite soon, hang in there!) to eat was at the Crowne Plaza Hotel restaurant, their breakfast was scrumptious!

Niagara On The Lake

We fell in LOVE with the town (and the people) of Niagara on the Lake. A quaint town just about 20 minutes from Niagara Falls.  So much so that we visited twice!  The drive alone was beautiful, with many wineries along the way.  Take a good pair of walking shoes and get ready to just enjoy the endless stores and restaurants you can visit.

No matter where you walked there were beautiful flowers displays in front of the stores and the light posts.  It was the prettiest town I have ever seen and the people were very friendly.   Just a short walk away you could go down to Lake Ontario and enjoy the boardwalk, sit on a stone wall and enjoy the lake!

We fell in love with the pub the Irish Harp,  which was an actual pub in Ireland!  The owner heard of the pub closing and bought the actual pub piece by piece to Niagara on the Lake.  It is the most charming pub and if you like they offer rooms above the pub to stay in! They had a few shops like the Irish Design which had many wonderful rings, hats, and clothing from Ireland. We found one little dinner that had my favorite meal of all, open face Turkey sandwich. Hands down the best meal and Joe loved his fish and chips.

If you travel with kids to Niagara Falls, there are many things for the kids to do as well as many tourist things (like Ripley’s believe it or not, go-carting, etc.) for the kids to do. They even have an indoor pool/slide fun park.  Joe and I love visiting the butterfly park, which is truly a unique experience as butterflies fly around and actually land on you. There is also quite a few wineries to visit as well as casinos.  Have you been to Niagara Falls?  If so leave a comment below and let us know some of your favorite things!
