“We need to quit apologizing for using our gifts and start apologizing for not using them.” Jennie Allen
In the world that we live in, it is full of so many creative people! From artists, to photographers, to YouTube stars! It is full of creative, influential, and inspirational people. Yet, we can live in world of comparison. As a 23 year old in the wedding photographer industry, it can really be a struggle not to compare. To compare myself to this person or that person. This photographer who does AMAZING work, I can compare myself to that I don’t do that amazing type of work that he/she does. You could say it might be jealously, but I really think its admiration. I admire their success and their gorgeous photography, I just want to be with them. Be on their level, and sometimes it takes time.
We compare ourselves to others success, to others progress, to others photographs, to others gifts, to others in every aspect of life. They are this, I am not. They are that, I am not. It is a hard world if you stay in comparison with someone else you see only through a little box on your phone. We see the success of others through a screen, which is wonderful to hear, but we let fear creep in. I begin to doubt myself, my abilities, and question if I really am meant to do this. And don’t get me wrong, I LOVE social media! I love its use on connecting with others, seeing others succeed in their dreams and gifts! It is a wonderful tool for beauty, expression, success and encouragement. However, when I compare it can distort the meaning of it. It doesn’t just ruin the meaning of Social media but the gift that you have.
Comparison will rob you. Comparison will stop you. Comparison will threaten you. Comparison will paralyze. Comparison will minimize you and your dreams. Comparison will scream that you are not good enough. Comparison will bring fear of rejection or failure. Comparison will say you’re not gifted enough. But don’t let comparison take YOU hostage! When I compare, I realize that I am robbing the joy of their success and how I view others! I want to encourage you to stop looking at others, but look at yourself with security. You have a beautiful and creative gift that God has given you a purpose to use, don’t let comparison rob you from that.
Be YOU in your gift! Be YOU in your calling. Be YOU when planning a wedding, painting a canvas, creating YouTube videos, or even starting your own blog! Know that YOU can always grow and encourage others! Be secure in God and his faithfulness in where He has placed you. You will impact someone, whether it is one or a thousand lives! You are unique and have your story to tell in the special way that you want to tell it! No matter what…everyone deals with comparison, but remember it is about being YOURSELF over the comparison.
