Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field | Anniversary Trip

Baseball and hotdogs, what is more American than that?!  What a perfect way to spend my anniversary and Memorial Day weekend!  When I was growing up in a suburb of Chicago, there was not one radio or TV not turned on and tuned into WGN & the Chicago Cubs playing baseball in my parents home.  My parents LOVED the cubs and from that grew my love for them.  It has been a long time that I have actually have gotten a chance to go back to Wrigley Field to see a home game, but this past Friday the 27th another wish of my bucket list came true!! Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, check this off my list! We had amazing seats for the game just off the first base line.  If you have never been to Wrigley Field you HAVE to go, it truly is a once in a lifetime experience. They keep some of the old traditions and mix it in with new ones. One of the things I love most about the park is the old time score board.  It is still done manually by hand!

We can’t talk about Chicago without mentioning food!  First up, a place that Joe and I went to a lot when we dated was Gene and Jude’s hotdogs. Nothing fancy at this place, no seats for you to seat on, no ketchup (so bring your own) but one darn delicious hot dog with fresh hand cut fries (NO frozen here).  Talk about a mound of fries, yummy!!  Second, if you are looking for an amazing Italian Beef sandwich (or hotdog) head on over to Portillio’s. Oh, did I mention there chocolate cake?!  There would have been mutiny if I didn’t bring back one cake each for Matthew and Sara, it is the BEST chocolate cake!

Chicago Pizza, just those two words say it ALL. There is no place like Chicago for pizza, yes we all know about the NY pizza, but Chicago pizza is AMAZING.  Most people know about the deep dish pizza but have you heard of their traditional crust?  It is our favorite!!! Let me tell you, we all fight over getting the crust pieces or as we say “the handles”.   I am hoping Jake (my son-in-law) can figure out the crust and we can try to make some here. Usually Joe and I bring back 10 pizza’s with us, but since we only had a 2 day visit, we just couldn’t! Dinner with dear friends (love the rainbow) at Sabatino’s finished out our amazing day.

Chicago will always have a place in my heart, there are so many wonderful things to do in this gorgeous city. Navy Pier, Baseball (American and National), tons of sports, shopping, concerts and food, Food, FOOD!

A few wonderful surprises Joe and I had is flowers delivered from Matthew, Sara and their families! They were so beautiful, made our hotel room smell so sweet and touched our hearts!

Thanks Cubs for winning the game 6-1 (that three run homer in the 6th inning was SWEET) and sweeping the series! Sara and I love Chicago, one of our favorite places to visit, if you ever travel there let us know and we will gladly give you a few recommendations!
