It seemed like a scene out of home alone.
My husband, Joe, and I had gotten separated from running from one airplane to the next. All through Charlotte Douglas International Airport. With only 15 minutes to spare, dashing through the many people strolling by casually. To my surprise, I actually beat him to the gate. Then while trying to catch my breath, I grab my phone calling him and grabbing my passport at the same time. It was something out of a comedy movie.
Yet, here we were off on a new adventure…
Ireland.
Just last week, Joe and I found that Joe’s grand grandfather moved from Ireland around 20 years old to Canada then to Chicago. Joe was never able to meet his great grandparents because they were deceased by the time Joe was born. So yesterday we planned a day trip to go to the National Archives in Dublin!
Now I wanted to share some of the tips that I have learned with packing for our Ireland trip!
Travel insurance:
We opted out of travel insurance for a few reasons. Our health insurance covered us out of the country. Our home owners insurance covered us four our valuables.
Weather:
this time of year is a bit chillier. Ireland is know for wind and rain. So a raincoat, umbrella and waterproof shoes/boots a must!
Euros:
while at RDU, we pulled out Euros at the ATM. No fees and easy to do!l
Car rental:
you will need a valid drivers license and in some places actually an international driving permit. Ireland you do not need one! We also recommend getting the Garmin from the car rental place as it is an excellent source and helping you drive!
Pack light:
brought clothes in the blog/grey/navy blue scheme and kept it simple. Sara helped me pack. One roll on suitcase and backpack came on the plane with me! Yes that includes one camera body, lens, 4 batteries and cards!
Rick Steves:
great travel book – great tips! Highly suggest.
As we travel down the road driving the car from what we call the passenger seat on the left hand side of the road I leave you with a:
Irish blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind always be at your back, may the sunshine warm upon your face.
And until we meet again, may the Lord hold you in the palm of his hand!”
So as I leave the photography business in the capable hands of my partner, I’m going to roam around the countryside and maybe just maybe find a real four-leaf clover (for you Karen!).
