House Update: Kitchen Sara Edition

Personal

October 17, 2017

If you were to open up my phone, click onto Pinterest, it would be all about home decor. I am one hundred percent serious – home decor, a lot of cookie recipes, and a few crocheting tips. I love to find a lot of inspiration on Pinterest!

So when Jake and I moved into our home in January 2016, Pinterest was my BFF! I shared all of my inspiration with Jake then with my dad, Joe, who was going to help us renovate our kitchen. It was a blast! I shared all about our first home update here!

Since then Jake and I have added pretty touches to our kitchen, but I honestly was never 100 percent happy with the color of the cabinets. I truly wanted a dark, rich navy blue to compliment the lightness of everything else. However, painting cabinets is a really hard thing to do. It is time consuming, a lot of hard work, and back pain is promised – yet the color still was not right. Jake asked me to wait at least 1 full year before I painted again, so I agree. Now over a year and a half later – I finally painting my cabinets!

I sanded, prepped and primed the day before just to make sure I had enough time to paint! Now, I will say this, you can paint an entire kitchen in one day, but just know that you will be painting ALL day long!

I began with top set of cabinets first then moved down the bottom set of cabinets. Deciding to the keep the doors attached, I used a small painting brush to get around all of the brackets.

After two coats of paint where applied I let the cabinets sit open from Saturday night to Monday night, giving them enough time to cure. Which is very important to give it enough time! On Tuesday morning, I finally saw the final results of my hard work and it was perfect! This was exactly what I had wanted for the past year and a half. Now it is time to purchase a new stove and prepare for the holidays!
