Jake’s 26th Birthday Weekend Sara & Jake's Stay-Cation

Personal

November 14, 2017

The month of October was a busy one for Michelle and I personally! Michelle and Joe went off to Ireland at the beginning of October while and Jake and I had a stay-cation towards the end of the month. Jake and I normally try to have a stay-cation around his birthday as we love to go to the State Fair, enjoy the cooler fall temperatures, and even go to a corn maze one evening! I know that my trip isn’t as grand as Michelle’s Ireland trip, I wanted to give you guys a insider into what we did!

Thursday night began our vacation! We went to this local farm-to-table restaurant, Reverence Farms, near our house to have a delicious start! Jake had the braised lamb with freshly stewed collards and summertime vegetables. I had the stunning, and best, chicken pot pie ever! It really is very rare when I finish my whole plate of food, but there was none of this pie left!

After dinner I wanted to go to a pumpkin patch, but sadly they close at 5-6PM…which I didn’t know about when we searching at like 7-8PM. So scratch that off my vacation list because we had no other time! On Friday, we spent from 11AM to 4PM at the NC State Fair in Raleigh. It was a STUNNING day for the state fair. The weather warmed up a bit during the afternoon, but there was plenty to do inside and out! And honestly, we always go for the fabulous state fair food. It has become a tradition of ours to go to the fair during Jake’s birthday!

We always eat everything way too fast and then we get sick, so this year we paced ourselves! First, we started off with a Bloomin’ Onion – seriously couldn’t wait for this! Then we had multiple corn cobs dipped in butter, loaded hot dogs, steak sandwiches, funnel cakes, caramel apples, and Jake’s favorite – the BBQ sandwich!

Then Saturday, we stayed home to get our brand new stove installed! Our neighbor, Sttan, was amazing to help with a last minute snag. Now we have a fully working stove/oven for the holiday quickly approaching! Then later that night, Jake and I met up two of my sweet girlfriends to go to a cornmaze! Last year, it took us an hour to go through the maze, but this year…20 minutes. YES. The maze only took us 20 minutes!

Sunday, was Jake’s actual birthday, so after church we went out to our local restaurant, the Saxapahaw General Store, to grab lunch with Michelle and Jake’s family! Then we spent the rest of day snuggled up on the couch, watching movies, and just enjoying the last day of vacation together!
