A Gorgeous Outdoor Jewish Wedding Melissa & Jon

Wedding

August 27, 2020

“Let’s Try Again!”

This was the title of the second invitation that Melissa and Jon sent out to guests after moving the date for the third time. March turned into May and May turned into August and let’s just say that the third time is truly the charm! And while we don’t like to mention COVID much, Melissa and Jon faced all sorts of lows with true joy and adversity with their families right beside of them. However, no matter what they faced, they were excited (and SO ready) to finally be married.

We adored so many things from Melissa and Jon’s Jewish wedding so buckle up! First, is the number of family members who, because of travel restrictions to the US, couldn’t physically attend so they did virtually! Melissa, Jon, and her family joined into a room to share a few greetings before beginning the ceremony.

For the ceremony, there are many moments that we want to give a little insight too. The Tisch began it all with Jon and 2 witnesses signing the Ketubah (Jewish marriage certificate). Then Jon was danced into the room where Melissa was, this is called the Bedeken. Valerie and Steven (Melissa’s parents) blessed Melissa and Jon and then Jon pulled the veil over Melissa’s face. Then Melissa went back inside while guests took their seats. It was so sweet to watch Jon and Melissa walk down the aisle with both parents.

After walking down the aisle Melissa will circle Jon 7 times and then the Rabi will begin. The first thing Jon did was place an unblemished silver ring on Melissa’s index finger. Then presenting Melissa with the Ketubah (Jewish marriage certificate), Melissa and Jon each took a sip from the glass of wine. Then 7 males each came up to the Chuppah and gave Melissa and Jon a blessing. At the very end, Jon broke the glass to signify that they are officially married, then they were danced down the aisle with the Jewish dance!

After they were introduced as husband and wife, the reception began! Dinner than turned into dancing that held so many fun moments. It was so fun to see the men raise Jon and Melissa up on chairs with the ladies dancing all around!

One of the sweetest parts of the wedding was how Melissa weaved so many important items, from family members who are no longer with them, throughout the day. Her jewelry belonged to her grandmothers. The wine glass they were using for the ceremony belonged to Melissa’s grandfather. The Tallit (shawl) on the inside of the Chuppah belonged to Melissa’s grandfather. Plaid getting ready shirts and plaid socks to honor Melissa’s brother. There wasn’t a single thing untouched by this thoughtfulness!

Melissa and Jon – we are so excited that you’re finally married! You have waited SO long and it finally happened! We hope that you enjoy just a sneak peek into your gorgeous wedding day!
